Although WordPress is a specialized blogging tool, it is possible to create any type of site with WordPress these days. This is not to say that there is nothing wrong with it, many WordPress sites are being hacked easily every day, there is no guarantee that your site will be hacked tomorrow. WordPress is very popular, just like WordPress comes to your mind before creating any site, just hackers WordPress is one of the most preferred platforms!
There are many WordPress security plugins that work almost perfectly, but nothing is 100% secure, so it is always wise to create regular backups of the site and store them in another location. Regardless of the type of problem on your site, everything can be saved by restoring the Last Backup.
In this tutorial, I have listed the names of some awesome backup and restore plugins. And step by step I will show you how to backup the WordPress site! So let's get started.
How to backup WordPress site
There are basically three ways to create a backup of a WordPress site;
- Uses WordPress Backup and Restore plugin.
- Contact your website hosting provider or subscribe to an additional backup plan.
- Creates manual backups manually from C-Panel or any hosting panel.
In this tutorial, I will try to show you the simplest method, which is how to create a backup using the WordPress plugin.
Some of the simplest and best backup plugins for WordPress
There are many backup services for WordPress that can easily and securely create backups and store those backups on a third-party server. Again, there are many plugins that can be manually configured to create backups. You can also store those backups on your own server or remote server.
- BlogVault
- VaultPress
- BackWPup - WordPress Backup Plugin
- BackupBuddy
- BackUpWordPress
- UpdraftPlus WordPress Backup Plugin
- Duplicator - WordPress Migration Plugin
- WordPress Backup & Security Plugin - BlogVault
- WordPress Backup & Clone Master
- Backup My WP to Dropbox
- Multi-Plugin Installer - Plugin Backup and Restore
We will discuss each of these plugins and services in another detailed post. To create this tutorial, I will show you how to use my favorite WordPress backup plugin UpdraftPlus! You can create a backup with just one click and restore the backup with just a few clicks. You can backup your images, uploaded files, themes, plugins, databases, etc. using this plugin.
So let's get started - what's the delay?
Install the plugin
Suppose you have a fully functional WordPress website. Just log in to the dashboard first. Then go straight to the installation process.
From the WordPress admin panel, go to Plugins> Add New option, here is the WordPress Plugin Store. Search in general, type UpdraftPlus, and then the result is the plugin, just click on the Just Install Now option and when installed, just activate the plugin!
After successfully installing and activating the plugin, the WordPress Settings tab will show the option of UpdraftPlus Backups.
This backup plugin has its own dashboard, where all the functions of the plugin are divided into separate tabs. I will briefly discuss all the tabs. And making a backup using this plugin is as easy as water.
Backup / Restore Tab
In this tab, you will find all the functions to backup and restore the WordPress site. Backup Now is already written on the big blue button, which means you have to start the backup process by pressing this button. Clicking the Backup Now button will open a pop-up where you will see some checkboxes. You can include and exclude anything here, to send a backup to a remote location you must first set up a remote drive which you can do from the Settings tab.
Migrate / Clone
With this tab, you will easily get the option to migrate or clone the WordPress site. This feature will come in handy when you want to move a site from one server to another or clone and create a separate site under a different domain. Keep in mind, however, that this will only be possible in the case of premium plugins. It's not free like the backup section!
Settings Tab
In this tab, you will find some advanced features. For example, you will have the option to automatically save your backups to Dropbox, FTP, Microsoft OneDrive, Email, Google Cloud, Rackspace Cloud Files, and Google Drive. You can set the schedule for creating backups. You can set separate schedules for web files and databases.
Separate backup system
If you do not use the WordPress plugin, you need to contact your web hosting company. If you are an ExcelNode customer, you can request backups from us by submitting live call support, chat support, and tickets. After a while, your backup will be ready and you will be notified by mail.
Moreover, all our hosting plans are C-panel powered, so you can easily create backups and restores from your C-panel.
Hopefully, by now you have a clear idea of how to backup your WordPress site and you can easily do it yourself. However, it is not always possible to rely only on backups, backups can be corrupted a lot of the time.
